Agent Connections

Create PATs, choose scopes, manage credits, and revoke MCP connections.

All MCP setup starts in the dashboard:

app.tradeecho.com/agent-connections

You need an active Trade Echo subscription.

Create a personal access token (PAT)#

  1. Open Agent Connections.
  2. Enter a label (e.g. Cursor laptop, Claude Code).
  3. Choose an access profile:
    • All market intel (28 tools) - every read-only market intel tool: Option Flow, Dealer Edge, Dark Pool, Algo Edge, Market Data, News Edge, BT Cloud, SEC Filings and Futures
    • Options and dealer only (19 tools) - Option Flow, Dealer Edge, market data and the futures tools
    • Or Custom: toggle individual Trade Echo tool groups
  4. My Account is a separate switch, not a profile: Let this agent read My Account adds your trade journal, copy-trading status, and live broker holdings (3 tools) on top of any profile. Leave it off unless the agent needs your own numbers; third-party models will see them.
  5. Trading (beta) is another separate switch, off by default, on every paid plan. Leave it off unless you want the agent to place orders and create trade plans. See Trading.
  6. Accept the MCP terms.
  7. Click Generate token.
  8. Copy the token immediately - Trade Echo will not show it again.

Tokens created earlier under older profile names keep working with the scopes they were issued with.

Token format looks like te_live_....

MCP URL (same for everyone):

https://api.tradeecho.com/api/mcp/intel

Auth types#

TypeBest forHow
PATCursor IDE, Codex, Grok CLI, Muse CodeGenerate PAT → paste Authorization: Bearer header
PAT or OAuthClaude CodePAT via --header, or add the URL then /mcp → Authenticate
OAuthChatGPT, Claude.ai / Claude Desktop connectors, Meta Muse, grok.com, native Grok BotAdd MCP URL → follow the OAuth link → Allow

OAuth connections also appear on the Agent Connections list as type oauth, labeled with the app's name (for example Muse or ChatGPT). Revoke them the same way as PATs.

The consent page needs an active Trade Echo membership. Without one, it shows a See plans link instead of Allow. Subscribe, then start the connection again from your AI assistant.

On the OAuth consent page, My Account is a separate checkbox. The market intel scopes your assistant asks for are granted with Allow after you accept the MCP terms. When an assistant does not ask for specific scopes, it gets the default market intel set (26 tools: everything except SEC filings). Existing OAuth connections stay intel-only until you reconnect and check the box.

Trading (beta, every paid plan) is its own section below My Account on the consent page, unchecked by default. See Trading.

Credits and limits#

MCP usage is metered in credits. Limits reset on the clock hour.

Typical defaults:

BucketLimit
Per connection / hour100 credits
Per user / hour150 credits
Burst / minute15 credits

Heavy tools (e.g. dealer edge, options chain, filings) cost more credits than a simple flow query. A Futures Echo Map replay (get_futures_echo_map with as_of) costs 4 credits instead of 2. Usage shows on each connection row.

If you hit the hourly cap:

  • Wait for the next hour, or
  • Buy a bonus credit pack on the same page (Starter Boost / Agent Day / Power Week)

Bonus credits apply after the hourly pool is exhausted. Revoking or creating a new token does not reset your hourly usage.

Daily create caps apply (PAT + OAuth) so tokens are not mass-minted.

Manage connections#

On the right side of Agent Connections you can:

  • See active vs revoked connections
  • Watch hourly usage + bonus credits
  • Revoke a connection (click once to arm, again to confirm)
  • See which connections show Trading on, and use Edit trading on them (Trading)

After revoke, that PAT or OAuth grant stops working immediately for tools/list and tools/call.

What connected apps can read, and what we log, is covered in the Privacy Policy (section 3.2).

Trading#

Trading is available on every paid plan as a beta. Trading is optional. With it on, an assistant can preview and place orders on your trading account, after you say yes in the chat, and create Cortex trade plans that you approve in Trade Echo. The market intel and My Account tools stay read-only.

Trading is off by default. You turn it on for one connection at a time.

PlanAccount the connection trades onActive trade plans
Monthly and YearlyOne brokerage account: your active Copy Trading account. Change it in Copy Trading.Up to 3
LifetimeAny linked account you choose, per connectionUnlimited

Turning it on#

  • OAuth clients: on the consent page, Trading is a separate section below My Account, unchecked by default. Check it, pick the accounts the assistant can use (Lifetime; Monthly and Yearly use their active Copy Trading account), accept the trading terms, then click Allow.
  • PAT clients: when you create a token, turn on the Trading switch, pick the accounts (Lifetime), accept the trading terms, then click Generate token.

Existing connections stay read-only. To use Trading with an assistant you already connected, reconnect it (OAuth) or create a new token (PAT) with Trading on.

A connection with Trading on shows Trading on in your connections list.

Choosing accounts#

On Monthly and Yearly, Trading uses one brokerage account: your active Copy Trading account. To trade on a different account, change your active account in Copy Trading.

On Lifetime, you can pick any of these for each connection:

Accounts are shown with masked labels, and paper accounts are labelled Paper. Orders go to the account the connection trades on, and the assistant can only use that account (or, on Lifetime, the accounts you chose for that connection). Lifetime members can change the list anytime with Edit trading.

What the assistant can do on those accounts:

  • Options: buy to open and sell to close an option you already hold, as limit orders. Your broker checks your options approval.
  • Stocks and ETFs (linked brokerage accounts only): limit or market orders. Market orders only from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET.
  • Cancel an open order you placed through Trade Echo Trading

All orders are day orders. Robinhood Agentic accounts support options only, as limit orders. Orders are long only: no short sales, no selling options you do not hold, and no spreads.

Before an order is sent, Trade Echo checks that the account is on this connection and healthy, that there is buying power for a buy, market session rules, and your cap on buys if you set one. Sells are limited to what your broker or Trade Echo shows you hold. Orders on a copy trading source account are refused, because your followers would copy them. If Trade Echo cannot confirm that your broker received an order, it never sends that order again: check your broker app. Every trading call is logged to an audit trail.

Per-order cap#

There is no platform cap. You can set an optional cap, in dollars, on the estimated cost of each buy with Edit trading on the connection. There is no cap by default. A buy whose estimated cost is above your cap is not sent. Sells are not capped.

Changes you make in Edit trading apply to the assistant's next tool call.

Confirm each order#

Confirm each order in Trade Echo is on by default for every connection with Trading.

  • When the assistant places an order, nothing goes to your broker yet. You get a push, and Trade Echo shows a confirm screen (also reachable from the banner in the web app) with the exact order: what you buy or sell, quantity, contract or symbol, limit price, account, estimated cost, the quote and its time, and any warnings.
  • Tap Confirm to send it to your broker, or Decline to drop it.
  • An order you do not confirm within 5 minutes expires and is never sent.

You can turn this off for one connection in Edit trading, for automations you trust. Trade Echo asks you to acknowledge: "Orders from this assistant will be sent without asking you. Only turn this off for automations you trust." The connection then shows Places without asking; with confirmation on it shows Confirms each order. Turning confirmation back on needs no extra step.

Turning it off#

  • Edit trading → Turn off trading on Agent Connections (Agent MCP in the web app menu), or
  • Turn Trading off from AI connections in the mobile app, or
  • Revoke the connection

After you turn Trading off, the connection keeps its other tools, which are read-only. To turn Trading on again, click Turn trading back on on that connection, pick the accounts (Lifetime), and accept the trading terms again. Trade Echo can also turn Trading off for everyone if needed. Turning Trading off for a connection, or removing it, cancels any trade plans from that connection that have not entered yet. A plan that already entered keeps its stop, target, trim steps and time exit, and you can sell it from Plans in Cortex.

What the assistant does#

  1. list_tradable_accounts shows the accounts this connection can trade on.
  2. preview_order builds a preview of the exact order: account, order details, quote, estimated cost, a note that fees are set by your broker, and any warnings. A preview does not send an order, and it expires after 2 minutes.
  3. The assistant shows you the preview in the chat.
  4. Only after you say yes does it call place_order. With Confirm each order on (the default), the order then waits for you to confirm it in Trade Echo, for up to 5 minutes. Once sent, the result is submitted, not filled.
  5. get_order_status reports the status from your broker: submitted, working, filled, partially filled, cancelled or rejected.

The assistant previews every order first and places it only after you say yes in the chat. By default you also confirm each order in Trade Echo before it is sent. Order status comes from your broker. An order is not filled until your broker says it is filled.

To cancel an open order placed this way, ask the assistant to use cancel_order. Cancelling does not need a preview. You can also decline an order that is waiting for your confirmation on the confirm screen, and it is never sent.

Trade plans#

With Trading on, the assistant can also create a Cortex trade plan: one long option trade with an entry limit, entry conditions (price above or below a level, premium at or below a price, price above the gamma flip, a Flip Cross, or the Charm Stack at the Anchor), a stop, a target, up to 3 trim steps ("sell X% at +Y%"), an optional time exit and a valid-until time. Each step sells that percent of the original position when the gain is reached; the rest keeps its stop, target and time exit. A plan with trim steps needs at least 2 contracts, and each step must sell at least 1 contract.

  1. preview_trade_plan checks the plan against your account and shows it in the chat. Nothing is sent to your broker.
  2. Only after you say yes does it call submit_trade_plan. You get a push and approve the plan in Trade Echo (Approve plan) within 5 minutes. Every plan needs this approval, even when Confirm each order is off.
  3. Once approved, Cortex watches the conditions during market hours, buys at or below your limit, sells at each trim step automatically, and exits on the stop, target or time exit, or before the bell on expiration day, without asking again. Positions can be held overnight. You get a push when it enters and when it exits.
  4. get_plan_status and list_plans report where your plans stand. cancel_plan cancels a plan that has not bought yet; to close an open plan position, use Sell now on Plans in Cortex.

Monthly and Yearly members can have up to 3 active plans. Lifetime members can have unlimited active plans.

Only tools allowed by the connection's scopes appear in tools/list. All market intel does not include My Account. Create a new token with the My Account switch on, or reconnect OAuth and check the box.

get_dealer_edge_data is for stocks, ETFs and cash indexes. It refuses futures roots (ES, NQ, MES, MNQ, RTY, YM) and points the assistant to the futures tools, or to the cash index (SPX, NDX, RUT, DJX) for index gamma. For the listed stock behind a futures-like symbol (for example ES or BTC as equities), the assistant passes resolve: "equity". See Futures tools for what each futures tool returns.

trade is never part of a profile or the default set. It is added only when a paid member turns on Trading for that connection, and its tools work only on a connection with Trading on. Every scope except trade is read-only.

Full per-tool parameters and credit costs: tradeecho.com/mcp/tools.

Free plan#

A free Trade Echo account sees a smaller Agent Connections page:

  • Your free connection (for example Grok or Claude), with Remove.
  • Briefs today, for example 1/3, and when the count resets (12:00 AM ET).
  • A Trade Echo Pro card with See plans.

There is no personal access token, credit pack or Trading editor on the free plan. You can have one free connection at a time: connecting from another client replaces it. Removing the free connection ends that client's access right away.
