# Echo Scripts

> Write your own Pulse studies in Echo Script on the web - the editor, what scripts can do, limits and how they run.

**Echo Script** is the Trade Echo scripting language for your own chart studies. It's a JavaScript-style language: a script exports its settings and a function that runs over the chart's bars. It can also read Trade Echo data, such as GEX, charm, dark pool and flow.

## Write a script (web)

1. Open **Pulse**.
2. Open the **Echo Script** panel from the right-hand strip, or open **Indicators** and choose **New script**.
3. Write your script. New scripts start from a header line, `// @echo-script v1`. Hover a function name to see its docs.
4. Click **Add to chart** to run it on the current chart (Ctrl+Enter, or Cmd+Enter on a Mac).
5. Click **Save**.

**Under the editor:** panes such as **Console** (errors and run time), **Publish** and **My scripts**.

**Starting points:** the name menu has **New script**, **My scripts** and **Templates**.

**When something goes wrong:** the console shows the error with its line number. When a run succeeds, it shows how many plots it drew and how long it took.

## What a script can do

- **Plots:** lines, steps, histograms, areas and markers, plus horizontal lines, fills, background color and bar color.
- **Inputs:** whole numbers, decimals, on/off switches, colors, price sources, pick lists, timeframes and symbols. Inputs show up in the script's settings, so you can tune it without touching code.
- **Other timeframes:** read bars from another timeframe, with no look-ahead.
- **Drawings:** boxes, labels and tables.
- **Alerts:** an alert condition is checked on our servers at bar close.
- **Strategy:** long, short and exit signals that you can test on paper.

## How scripts run

Scripts run in a sandbox, an isolated runtime inside your browser. They use only the bars already on your chart. They can't reach the network, and they never place orders.

## Who can use it

Echo Script is included with a paid Trade Echo plan.
